Nine things to try with Ask Unicorn this week

Ask Unicorn lives right above your keys. Tap it, say what you need, and tap the answer to drop it into whatever app you're in. Here are nine to start with.

1. Answer the text you've been avoiding

Open the chat, tap Ask Unicorn and pick Reply, or type /reply. Unicorn reads the last few messages from your notifications (if you let it) and drafts a reply in your voice. Add a note like /reply say yes but only after 7 to steer it.

2. Turn three words into an email

In Gmail, type /email ask landlord about the leaky faucet, nicely. You get a complete email with a greeting and sign-off, ready to send.

3. Fix a message before it goes out

Type the way you text, then tap Polite, Friendly, Pro or Shorter. Unicorn rewrites it in place, and the undo button brings back your original if you liked it better.

4. Write the toast

Try a 60 second toast for my sister's wedding, funny but not embarrassing, she loves hiking and bad puns. Then tap Shorter or Try again until it sounds like you.

5. Say it in Spanish

Type your message in English and use /translate Spanish. It works for French, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog and more than twenty other languages.

6. Summarize the long thing someone sent

Copy a long message or article, then tap Summarize copied. You get the gist in a few lines, right where you're typing.

7. Plan dinner from what's in the fridge

In a note or a chat with your partner: dinner for two with chicken thighs, a lemon, rice and half a bag of spinach, 30 minutes.

8. Ask for the raise, politely

Use /formal on your draft, or start from scratch: message to my manager asking to talk about a raise, confident not pushy.

9. Keep going where you left off

Halfway through a cover letter or a long post? /continue writes the next few sentences in the same style, so you can keep the momentum.

Ask Unicorn stays out of passwords, codes, card numbers and banking apps. It only appears where you're writing something to a person.

All of this is free. If lots of people are using Unicorn's AI at once, the tools may take a short break and come back on their own. Typing always keeps working.
